Job Description
Duties
The primary purpose of the position, at the full performance level, is to perform fabric journey level duties and to train others. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments at the WG-09 level include:
Measuring, sketching patterns, cutting, and fabricating machinery covers, seat covers, and curtains with such materials as cotton, vinyl, nylon, plastic, Cordura, coated polyester, Herculite, Normex, etc.
Developing patterns, determining material type and thickness.
Pre-testing, disassembling, and examining more complex components and assemblies before overhaul to determine operational deficiencies, serviceability, and the extent of disassembly necessary to repair a unit or to incorporate modifications.
Performing seat repairs and rebuilding seats and backs by removing and using the old cover or established pattern as a guide.
Making and repairing articles that are difficult to plan, lay out, construct, and fit because of figure irregularities, uncommon shapes and sizes, unusual designs or intricately constructed parts.
At the WG-07 level, the employee will receive tailored instruction, guidance, training and close supervision designed to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary for successful performance in the full performance level or target position of WG-09.
